Definition

Wake boats, also called ski, surf, and wakeboard boats, are sturdy V-drive motor boats packed with enough power to keep towed water sport enthusiasts at exciting speeds. They’re designed specifically to create surfable wakes behind them, and many include cruise control to keep the speed steady for the towed party’s safety.

Common Features

Aside from cruise control, most wake boats include a number of technologies to help them create better wake and control its shape and size. Ballast, for instance, just means weight to push the stern drive lower into the water, deepening the wake. Many wake boats have adjustable ballast to help you modify the wake while you’re on the water.

Hydrofoils are another technology they often utilize. These are metal wedges or plates that the boat operator can adjust at will, allowing them to manually alter the wake even further.
